15th Century Hinge?

I doubt very much that this was the original strap hinge or door that were fitted back in the 15th century or a long time since, even. The hinge, though, with some signs of rust, is definitely in keeping with the spirit and aesthetic of Woodspring Priory – in a rural setting just a field from the coast on the Bristol Channel – at Kewstoke, Weston-super-Mare.

I’ve always found interesting that these old wooden doors and windows were and are just left to weather naturally with out any application of preservative. Perhaps, traditionally when labour and materials were close to hand and relatively inexpensive, people thought, why bother!
Of further interest is the upright protecting strips of wood are recessed to fit over the strap. Which is an attractive touch.
